MBOMBELA – AUTHORITIES have urged law enforcers to ensure Mpumalanga communities complied with provisions of the ongoing national lockdown against the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Gabisile Shabalala, the Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Community, Safety, Security and Liaison, expressed concern there were still some movements of people between Tekwane South and KaNyamazane despite the lockdown coming into effect last Thursday midnight.

“We have noted with great concern that there are still some individuals who are not complying with the regulations. Communities must stay at home and prioritize their own health, that of their family and the entire community,” Shabalala said.

She called on law enforcement officers to ensure that those refusing to comply are arrested.

“Government is not at war with any communities but against the further spread of the virus,” the MEC added.

She also appealed to shop owners to stick to the revised trading hours and practice hygiene, so that customers and employees in those areas were not affected.

Shabalala also instructed officials at the Lebombo Port of entry between South Africa and Mozambique to ensure no movement of people takes place except by those authorised during the lockdown period.

As of Tuesday, Mpumalanga had 12 confirmed cased of COVID-19 out of South Africa’s total of 1 353.
