Digital energy summit targets 500 women

JOHANNESBURG – AFRICA’S first women-owned digital platform has announced an ambitious plan to empower 500 women in the digital energy space.

A solar-powered data centre, Set to debut in the first quarter of 2024, is central to the plans by the Women in Digital Energy (WIDE).

The first 180 individuals have already seized the opportunity during the inaugural launch of the WIDE Awards held in August.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thembi Nkadimeng, attended, confirming the government as a partner in the groundbreaking solar energy data centre.

Located in the heart of South-Western Townships (Soweto(, South Africa’s largest township, the Solar Energy Data Centre adds another layer of historical significance to this community.

“Through WIDE, we’re not just embracing change; we’re leading it,” said Tami Mase, founder of WIDE.

“Our mission is to empower women in the digital energy space and redefine the future of our energy economy. Together, we’re not just participants; we’re pioneers, shaping a brighter, more inclusive world for all.”

WIDE, founded in 2018, is also organizing the Africa Digital Energy Summit (ADES), scheduled for Soweto on October 27-28.
