cape townCAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – THE City of Cape Town has been urged to ensure employment equity.

The call comes amid concern by labour organisations.

On Thursday, the influential Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) alleged the indicators for all groups of employment equity were not performing well.

“The indicators for blacks in senior positions are going backward. The indicators for people with disabilities are going backward. The senior positions are still dominated by whites. The consultants that the City is using, instead of permanent staff, are also dominated by whites,” COSATU Western Cape Secretary, Tony Ehrenreich, said.

He said such was revealed in the reports submitted to the Corporate Services Portfolio Committee held last week.

“This report was hidden from the media as it shows just how this is not “A well run City” in respect of compliance with the law and consideration of black people. This City clearly only works for you if you are white, whether that is in relation to jobs in the City, service provision or allocation of finances.”
