KZN offenders to spend 400 years in prison

downloadDURBAN, (CAJ News) – THE KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has plenty to celebrate during the ongoing campaign against women and child abuse.

This follows the successful conviction of offenders.

During October, the organisation managed to arrest a total of 368 suspects for various sexual related crimes in the province such as rape, assault, kidnapping, sexual assaults.

During the same month, the members achieved 50 convictions out of which are seven life sentences and a total of 444 years imprisonment meted out to other offenders accused ofvarious crimes.

Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, Provincial Police Commissioner welcomed the work of the unit, which coincided with the commemoration of 16 Days of Activism against women and child abuse.

“We will not stop to protect our children and women from the perpetrators. We will ensure that they are prosecuted and kept behind bars. The efforts by KwaZulu-Natal FCS to solve the cases is commended and we applaud their dedication to keep our children safe,” said Ngobeni.
