JOHANNESBURG – MTN, Africa’s biggest mobile network operator, has disclosed its eco-responsibility highlights for the past year.Among highlights carried in its Sustainability Report for 2016 include the use of 340 renewable energy sites to power MTN’s network operations.
The company implemented over 10 000 energy efficiency solutions across its operations and recycled 537 tonnes of electronic and electrical waste (e-waste).
It saved over 15 000 of paper, over 117 kℓ of paper and recycled more than 1 808kg of general office waste.
“We’ll continue to engage our stakeholders and partners to achieve our mutual aims of sustainable growth and a digitally-inclusive society,” MTN Group Chairman, Phuthuma Nhleko, said on Wednesday.
MTN has also realised that its operating countries often have limited resources to adapt and cope with environmental impact.
As a result, the company is working towards mitigating its carbon footprint and resource consumption, by investing in green office projects and implementing energy efficiency, alternative energy and other programmes.
