PORT ELIZABETH – CHILDREN and disadvantaged members of the community in the impoverished Eastern Cape Province have received a major boost after a motoring company handed over more than 500 000 to local nongovernmental organisations.
The donation by Volkswagen (VW) will benefit the Young Entrepreneurs Foundation, Port Elizabeth Mental Health Society and St. Francis Hospice.
The latest cheque handover by Volkswagen brings the total amount donated to local charities and non-profit organisations to R2,8 million in 2017.
“I am proud that VWSA through the Volkswagen for Good initiative is able to play a part in the difference that these organisations make in the lives of the residents of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro,” said Thomas Schaefer, Volkswagen Group South Africa Chairman and Managing Director.
The Young Entrepreneurs Foundation teaches children, aged 7-15 years vital entrepreneurial and financial literacy skills.
The Port Elizabeth Mental Health Society renders a holistic service to people with disabilities and psychiatric illnesses.
The St. Francis Hospice provides a holistic service of palliative care to short life expectancy patients by filling the gap in terminal service care through the offer of medical and nursing care as well as psycho-social support.
