Zambia surpasses SA as swimming powerhouse

LILONGWE, (CAJ News) – ZAMBIA has secured a phenomenal 82 medals to win the African Swimming Confederation regional championships held in Malawi after .

The Zambians showed favourites South Africa a clean pair of fins as the latter amassed 55 medals, two more than Mauritius, who finished third in the 13-country table.

Zambia’s haul consisted of 26 gold, 27 silver and 29 bronze medals at the junior championships. South Africa has 22, 20 and 13 respectively.

This was more than double the medals accumulated by countries placed below Mauritius and South Africa.

Botswana clinched 30 medals, seven more than neighbouring Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Angola had a medal less.

Kenya finished the championships with 21 medals, one more than islanders Seychelles.

Hosts Malawi secured 13 medals to finish ahead of Madagascar who collected 12 medals.

Uganda and Swaziland finished with eight and seven medals respectively.
