PRETORIA   – Two days after wrapping up the Absa Premiership championship in style, newly crowned kings of South African football Mamelodi Sundowns held a victory parade in the City of Tshwane which drew the attention of the capital city on Monday.

Sundowns clinched the coveted prize after amassing 71 points, the highest number in a season by a South African club. The previous record of 69 points was held by deposed champions Kaizer Chiefs from the last season.

During their trailblazing campaign, Pitso Mosimane’s charges won 22 games, lost three and drew five times while scoring 55 goals in 30 matches. It was a campaign that also saw perennial campaigners Jomo Cosmos being relegated after losing 1-0 to Maritzburg on the last day of the race.

Gauteng side University of Pretoria will be involved in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) play-offs against Mbombela United and Highlands Park after surviving the chop.
