JOHANNESBURG – Mamelodi Sundowns made a mockery of their earlier elimination in the CAF Champions League when they whipped ES Setif of Algeria away on Saturday night in the opening match of the group stage.
Reports say Tiyani Mabunda broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 33rd minute when found the back of the net when he found the top corner of the goal with a pin-point strike.
Setif almost responded immediately as they got a shot on target moments after the restart, but Wayne Sandilands was equal to the task..
In the 63rd minute the lead was doubled for Sundowns as some terrific individual skill from Khama Billiat resulted in a second goal. The Zimbabwean sliced through the defence before placing a composed finish
beyond the goalkeeper.
Sundowns lined up: Sandilands, Mbekile, Nthethe, Arendse, S. Zwane, Mabunda (Modise 83′), Kekana, T. Zwane, Dolly, Billiat, Castro (Ngele 70′) .
