Zimbabwean arrested for Joburg shop robbery

JOHANNESBURG – SOUTH African police have urged members of the community to refrain from mob justice after a Zimbabwean man (24) suspected of robbing a shop in Johannesburg was injured.

The suspect is one of two males that allegedly robbed the shop of an
undisclosed amount of money at gunpoint on Wednesday morning.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) could not reveal the nationality of the second suspect.

The suspect was apprehended and a bag with money recovered.

He was assaulted by the community before police came to his rescue.

The man has been hospitalised under police guard.

Another suspect in possession of a firearm is still at large.

Captain Xoli Mbele, Johannesburg police spokesperson, said, “While we thank the community for their effort in apprehending a suspect. We are strongly appealing to the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.”
