JOHANNESBURG – A PARTNERSHIP between a local operator and a web infrastructure company is anticipated to address South African businesses’ vulnerability to the global cyber-crime pandemic triggered by the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Vodacom business and Cloudflare have announced the partnership.

News reports of such an attack of a critical healthcare organisation earlier this month indicate that South African businesses are not exempt.

The country has noted a 33 percent increase in the volume of cyber-attacks since March, coinciding with the lockdown period.

Kabelo Makwane, Managing Executive for Cloud, Hosting and Security at Vodacom Business, said the partnership with Cloudflare ensured that local businesses had the best products and solutions available to protect them from today’s increasingly sophisticated online threats.

“Now is not the time to let your guard down,” Makwane said.

The executive said while some businesses were returning to their offices but many others still operating via remote working, cyber criminals gearing up to further attack businesses as they adopted a hybrid model between their corporate network and remote set up.

The partnership with the United States-headquartered Cloudflare will allow Vodacom Business to offer Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack protection and traffic acceleration for all network infrastructure.
