michel platiniJOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – THE Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) member associations have proposed seven candidates for the presidency of the crisis-torn organisation.

The candidates are Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein (Jordan), Musa Hassan Bility (Liberia), Jérôme Champagne (France), Gianni Infantino (Switzerland), Michel Platini (France), Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain) and Tokyo Sexwale (South Africa).

FIFA said the ad-hoc Electoral Committee will now assess the candidatures, in line with the Electoral Regulations for the FIFA Presidency.

Upon receipt of the results of the integrity checks, the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee will reconvene in order to review the submissions and validate their compliance with the applicable FIFA regulatory provisions.

Following this process, the committee will formally admit and declare the candidates who are eligible to stand for the office of FIFA President.

Given that Michel Platini is currently provisionally banned from taking part in any football-related activity, his candidature will not be processed by the Ad-hoc Electoral Committee as long as such ban is valid and in force.

The winning candidate will succeed Sepp Blatter, whose presidency has been clouded by controversy.

He was recently suspended alongside Platini.
