JOHANNESBURG, (CAJ News) – ONE lucky connoisseur will get to purchase the most expensive whiskey bottling for sale at the moment- a R730 000 bottle of Balvenie 50 YO single malt whisky in a special collectors tube at Makro.

The store is well-known for having the rarest and finest whiskies and cognacs.

This is among the highlights of Makro’s festive season liquor catalogue, which features a wide range of premium and local tipple, is met with much excitement.

This year, also exclusive to Makro, The Glenfiddich 50YO single malt, the fourth most expensive, worth R650 000, is back.

The 2016 catalogue features 44 pages of the widest range of liquors at exceptional prices.

New additions to the Makro festive season liquor catalogue include a wider selection of vintage wines and a dedicated craft beer section.

“As one of the leading liquor destinations in the country, Makro is continuously extending its offering and innovating to ensure that we meet and exceed our customer’s needs” Makro Chief Executive Officer, Doug Jones, says.

“It made sense that we become a part of the craft beer revolution by offering a wide range of brands to our consumers” says Jones.

One of the most exciting things about the craft beer world is its constant evolution. There is an ongoing sense of experimentation that usually leads to new waves of flavours hitting the market each year.

The same can be said of the exploding gin range, as craft distillers bring new flavours to the category.

To connect craft beer lovers with new flavours, Makro has included a CBC craft beer gifting pack in the catalogue. Makro has also recently introduced craft beer fridges to the Strubens Valley and Woodmead stores, and will be rolling them out to all Makro liquor stores.

Following the successful launch of Makro Pick-Up Lockers in 2014, customers can now also order liquor online and collect it in a Makro Pick-Up Locker.

With a further 20 lockers to be rolled out in convenient and safe destinations, like garage forecourts and fast food retailers across the country, this collection service is an efficient way to deliver our customers.

Using the service is as easy as selecting the Makro Pick-Up Locker collection option at checkout when on Makro’s e-commerce website www.makro.co.za. Once your order is ready for collection from one of the Makro Pick-Up Lockers, you will receive a text message with a unique code that grants you access to the appropriate locker.

Jones says they view click and collect locker order fulfilment as an important part of Makro strategy as it provides our customers with another convenient touch point with our brand.

“We are delighted to have rolled out more online pick-up lockers, taking the available sites to 23.”

Makro now has 20 warehouse clubs in South Africa trading in food, general merchandise and liquor with stores located in major metropolitan areas, operating under a low cost/low margin trading philosophy.

It is owned by Massmart, a managed portfolio of four divisions, each focused on high volume, low margin, low-cost distribution of mainly branded consumer goods for cash, through 414 stores in 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
